Physical wellness

Holistic beauty is all about ensuring your overall wellness. In this post, let’s understand the need to pay attention to our physical wellness and skin as well.

Ordinarily, a healthy skin needs  minimal care and efforts.  However, an inadequate or improper care can ruin a healthy skin.

A regular skin-care regime and discipline are absolutely essential.
If you want your skin to look attractive and healthy, there are a few rules you should follow.

Internal care of a perfect complexion requires a sensible diet, plenty of water, adequate sleep, moderate sleep, moderate exercise, and a calm disposition.  All these contribute to a soft, beautiful skin.

What you eat goes to your skin through the blood stream.  Food for a pretty skin includes fruit and vegetables, lean meat, dairy products, whole grain breads and cereals.  Be moderate in your intake of sweets, chocolate, starches and greasy food and food to which you might be sensitive.  If you break out into hives the day after you eat fish or prawns or in bumps when you’ve indulged in an orgy of chocolate, you know which food to restrict in your diet.

Drink plenty of liquids.  Moisture is the key to fair complexion.  It begins with six glasses of water a day, and as much additional liquids in the form of juices, milk etc.

Your skin revives itself when you sleep.  Eight hours in a day is not too much.  This means eight or ten hours each night, not five hours one night and eleven the next.

Also it is important to sleep at reasonable hours. The current trend of young people of staying up very late also takes its toll. This will result in waking up late and thus missing out on the precious morning hours of fresh air.

Fresh air and exercise

Oxygen is vital to your skin and blood cells carrying both oxygen and nourishment are circulated to every part of your body, including your skin.

If you are continuously breathing in stagnant stale air, you cannot expect your skin to look pink and glowing with good health.  Deep breathing exercises are a beauty treatment in themselves especially when you are filling your lungs with pure fresh air.

A brisk half-hour daily walk can do you as much good as an expensive facial, especially if you are relaxed and dressed for the walk and above all enjoying the walk.  You will return home with a glow in your cheeks and a sparkle in your eyes and your skin will tingle with vitality.  Exercise revs up your circulation carrying oxygen to the skin.

Establish regular elimination habits.  Retained toxins show as poor colour, circles under the eyes or skin blemishes.  A couple of figs or dates a day can help in daily elimination. Soak the dates overnight in a cup of water.

In the morning, mash the dates in the water and drink first thing in the morning before your bed tea.

An excellent antidote to constipation is an early morning drink of lemon juice and water, or a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey stirred into a glass of warm water.

A skin which is a result of good internal care will reflect a glow that no amount of external application of creams, lotions and make-up can bring.
